Despite the “latest research” proclaiming coffee to be healthy, the reality is, coffee does more harm in the body than good. Why is coffee bad for you?
- It’s sprayed with toxic chemicals and pesticides. Coffee is mass produced and one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world. Pesticides such as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Glyphosate (weed killer) are used on coffee beans to prevent them from degrading. These chemicals are not only harmful to wildlife and the environment, they have also been linked to cancer, hormone disruption and neurological disease.
- Coffee crops are susceptible to mould (mycotoxins) which when consumed have been known to cause liver, kidney and brain damage.
- Highly toxic for your cells. When coffee beans are heated and roasted, the antioxidants in the beans are destroyed and carcinogenic toxins are produced. These toxins alter the DNA of your cells, causing a whole host of health issues and cancers.
- Addiction. People become addicted to the caffeine in coffee in the same way smokers become addicted to nicotine. Withdrawal from caffeine causes symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, depression, anxiety and irritability.

- Weight gain and blood sugar imbalances. High levels of cortisol in the body (which spike when you drink coffee) increases your blood sugar levels and decreases insulin sensitivity. What this means is, your body is more likely to store the excess sugars as fat as it cannot get the sugar molecules into the cells due your insulin receptors not working efficiently.
- Digestive issues such as heartburn, reflux, bloating and IBS. Coffee is highly acidic and irritates the gut causing inflammation, reduced mineral absorption and lowered stomach acid production.
Is decaf coffee better for you?
In short, no. Decaffeinated coffee is more toxic than normal coffee!
Coffee is decaffeinated using heat, water and chemical solvents. Trace elements of the chemical solvents are still left in the coffee after processing. People who consume these chemicals have an increased chance of experiencing chronic health issues including cancer. Furthermore, decaf coffee is not 100% decaffeinated. The processing only removes 97% of the caffeine.
