I have achieved a great life/work balance

Louise Ferguson – Health Coach

I love being a part of my clients’ health improvement journeys

What did you do before studying at CNM?

After jumping between jobs in different industries over the years and having my 3 children, at the age of 30 I made the decision to fulfil a lifelong ambition of becoming a Midwife. I graduated in 2013 and after consolidating my knowledge and skills in a hospital setting my love of learning beckoned again. In 2015 I graduated university with a postgraduate diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing. This led to me taking up a role as a Health Visitor. In 2018 I took up an opportunity to further develop my skills and started a role as a Specialist Health Visitor for Infant feeding and Healthy Weight. This involved giving breastfeeding support and working with individualised care plans. As part of my training, I completed a Level 7 Advanced Clinical Skills in Ankyloglossia Management course, allowing me to assess for tongue ties and carry out tongue tie divisions on babies up to 6 months of age.

What made you want to become a Health Coach?

My own health journey motivated me to complete the course and want to help others in similar situations. I became very unwell in 2020, around the start of the Covid-19 pandemic with what later turned out to be an autoimmune condition. I felt let down by the health service I had worked for when I was in need. I decided to take my health into my hands and learn how to support myself naturally and holistically.

What attracted you to CNM’s Health Coach course?

I was attracted to CNM due the fact I could learn remotely and at my own pace. This was very important as I was still recovering and needed to take things easy for a while. CNM resonated with me due to their holistic approach and values.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

I enjoyed the ‘Nutrition for Everyday Living’ the most, it really supported me to see food as medicine, something that I feel was lacking in my skill set as a health professional. The Business, Marketing and Promotion module helped me get my business up and running.

How has studying the Health Coach diploma changed your life?

The knowledge I have gained on the course enables me to support myself, my family and my clients achieve individualised health goals. It gave me the motivation to start my own business, something I had never previously considered.

What are you doing now that you are qualified?

I have achieved a great life/work balance. I remain working on a casual basis for the NHS to keep up my professional registrations while also running my own business (Redwing Holistic Health). I use bio-energetic testing as an adjunct to my health coaching to assist clients on their journey to better health. I have developed a network of local practitioners to enable me to refer my clients on when needed and they also refer to me. I also work in partnership with a local gym.

What do you love about being a Health Coach?

It is so rewarding! I love being a part of my clients’ health improvement journeys and empowering them to take control of their own health and wellbeing. I really do have job satisfaction and the best of both worlds.
