Stress took its toll and I felt my career no longer aligned

Marianne Horton – Health Coach

This realisation lead me to explore my passion outside of work: health and wellness.

What did you do before studying at CNM?

Before studying at CNM I worked within the Housebuilding Sector as a Land Director. I was responsible for buying new land for housing developments and taking them through the planning system to deliver new homes. I had done a related degree straight from College and entered a prestigious Graduate Development Scheme with one of the country’s largest housebuilders. Initially I thrived in the fast paced environment, but eventually stress took its toll and I felt my career no longer aligned with who I was as a person. This realisation lead me to explore my passion outside of work, health and wellness.

What made you want to become a Health Coach?

Growing up with a chronically ill mother made me extremely aware of how fragile our health is. I always researched and read everything I could about various pathologies to search for root causes and I realised that I could put that desire to learn to better use in my own career. I encountered many people that needed help, and I knew I could help them so a qualification in Health Coaching was the perfect answer.

What attracted you to CNM’s Health Coach course?

The Health Coach course seemed incredibly thorough and importantly was accredited with bodies such as the NHS PCI and UKHCA. I knew that if I was going to swap careers entirely, then I wanted to select the very best possible qualification through an esteemed college, which is how I found CNM. I also loved the fact I could learn online at my own pace, which really suited my life as a busy mum.

What did you enjoy most about the course?

I absolutely loved the first module about the Body, taught by Bobby Qureshi. I couldn’t wait to complete each lecture to learn something new on the next! I also enjoyed the Business and Marketing module as the support and advice it gave to actually set up and launch your business was great, and it started to all feel very real then.

How has studying the Health Coach diploma changed your life?

There were points in my life where I never imagined I’d be doing something that helped so many people and was aligned with my core values as a person. I am so lucky to have found a career that takes me away from the 9-5 and to something that doesn’t even feel like work! It feels like Health Coaching is really taking off, and I’m so glad to be part of the movement.

What are you doing now that you are qualified?

I have just launched by business ‘Property Health Coach’ , where my niche is women from my old professional industry because I know exactly what stressors they are under. I can’t wait to start working 1:1 with clients and hopefully also break into the corporate wellness arena in the West Midlands too.

What do you love about being a Health Coach?

What’s not to love?! I think making more people aware of the benefits a Health Coach can offer is one of the main parts of the job I love. A lot of people never knew we existed, so I enjoy telling people there is hope and support out there, particularly if they are more aligned with holistic aspects of health and wellness. Being my own boss and being responsible for a business is certainly new to me, but it’s such a good feeling knowing that my direct actions are making a difference in people’s lives; it’s incredibly wholesome.
