I decided to take responsibility
Emma Smith-Gamble – Health Coach
Tackling this head on and becoming a Health Coach allowed me to empower & equip myself with all the information to adapt positively to the environment I was in, creating a resilience like no other.
What did you do before studying at CNM?
I am a partner of a top 50 Law firm, Shakespeare Martineau (a full service law firm providing legal advice for life and business) and member of the Ampa group. What I love about the firm is that their purpose is nice and clear and aligned to my own values, to unlock potential and its ambitions are unlimited to become one of the most admired 30 legal & professional services groups by 2025. What a great culture to be surrounded by and a listed best company 2021 for an outstanding company to work for. As you can tell they were more than encouraging when I was undertaking this qualification.
I am a people person through and through and have always believed whatever job I do, whether paid or voluntary I will make a difference to the lives of others. I am a passionate leader who heads up the social housing sales team and work in a sector that strives to provide the opportunity for all to have access to good-quality affordable housing, including those who are unable to do so on the open market. I’ve always cared about health and well-being and the role good quality housing can have in supporting improved health outcomes really interests me. Having now qualified as a Health Coach I see the world very differently and believe everything starts with a stable environment, whether that be your body and Homeostasis (state of balance) or the home in which you live.
What made you want to become a Health Coach?
My own health journey led me down of the path of education and after researching numerous avenues decided this was the right route for me. Change & transformation is a part of everyone’s journey & life’s experiences (positive or negative) influence – but they certainly do not determine your outcome or success in life, whether that be in health, happiness, life or business. I decided to take responsibility for my own health. Tackling this head on and becoming a Health Coach allowed me to empower & equip myself with all the information to adapt positively to the environment I was in, creating a resilience like no other. Supporting myself through the pursuit of activities that embraces a whole-health approach that has made a huge difference to how I now live. Learning everything I have and putting this into practise on a daily basis has changed the outcome and thankfully the medications that are now reduced.
What attracted you to CNM’s Health Coach course?
The scope of what was covered, the qualification and accreditation of the NHS and the UK & International Health Coaching Association.
What did you enjoy most about the course?
Quite simply all of it and meeting like-minded people who have such a passion to make a difference in life and business. Behavioural change fascinates me and getting the best out of people has got to be the biggest highlight. For me it’s the simplest and most effective way is to inspire long-lasting behaviour change.
How has studying the Health Coach diploma changed your life?
Knowing how to coach others is extremely rewarding as I am now able to address all aspects of health and well-being concerns and provide support. This can be achieved through many strategies such as an active goal oriented approach to address and disrupt an ongoing habit whilst fostering new behaviours through long term behavioural change.
What are you doing now that you are qualified?
As I love my day job, I will use this qualification to empower others to get the very best out of them. It really compliments what I already do and providing a structure for reflection that is necessary for growth and development of people following a whole health-approach. I have set up a few social media platforms to share free content (I: @healthy_emma_after_by_esg and FB: @healthyemmaafterbyesg) and have started writing articles and programs in my spare time that I aim to deliver next year.
What do you love about being a Health Coach?
My passion is to empower others and share knowledge to make positive changes so those I coach, manage and support are not severing their chances to grow and reach their full potential with a whole health and wellness approach to life and business. Everyone is individual and facing unique circumstances, so the approach you take will vary from person to person.
